What I liked

I loved being able to completely control my own research. It was an extremely educational experience where I developed tools that I will be able to apply to my future career that I would not have other wise have developed.

What I wish was different

Absolutely nothing.

Advice

Be open to participating on a research project that is not directly related to your major. I have found a new interest in the topic that I researched even through I was unsure if I would enjoy it.

What I wish was different

Advice

Staying on campus for the summer doing research in a lab, working on an independent project was an amazing opportunity. I learned about different lab techniques and skills, formed relationships with Professors and other lab members, and focused my researching techniques. Being able to plan and follow through a project, and then presenting the results at a conference was extremely fulfilling and overall educational. I would highly recommend other students to pursue summer opportunities related to their interests in order to gain experience and figure out what they like best!

It’s great to have some laboratory experience to mention when talking to future employers and there’s many skills that can be gained from hands-on work.
